Excavation & Site Work Insurance

Excavation puts heavy equipment, underground utilities, public roads and surrounding property into the same loss scenario. Depth, shoring, blasting, utility work and hauling can all change underwriting.

Contractor insurance starts with the work—not a generic class description.

Project type, job-site conditions, subcontracting, contracts, fleet, equipment and completed work can all change the insurance conversation.

Utility strikesDamage to gas, electric, water or communications lines can create severe losses.
Heavy equipmentOwned, leased and rented equipment needs appropriate physical-damage protection.
Hauling & autoDump trucks, trailers and material hauling create meaningful commercial-auto exposure.
PollutionFuel, hydraulic fluids and disturbed materials can create environmental claims.

Questions worth answering before renewal.

Does 811 eliminate utility-strike exposure?

No. Locates are an important control, but they do not eliminate every underground loss scenario.

Is heavy equipment covered by commercial auto?

Often not in the same way as licensed road vehicles. Mobile equipment and inland marine treatment should be reviewed.

Does depth matter?

Yes. Deep excavation, trenching and shoring can materially affect workers compensation and liability underwriting.
